Message from the Organizers |
One of the original objectives of the EASEC was to provide an opportunity for discussing various practical issues of construction engineering. We would like to revive this objective in EASEC-7. Through exchanging information and views, we would like to achieve mutual understanding among engineers and researchers on current issues and future perspectives of construction engineering. Special lectures or sessions will be arranged to reinforce this objective. We have also been putting our utmost effort to make attendance at EASEC-7 affordable. Let's look at what we can offer you.

About EASECs |
The idea of holding the EASEC conference was conceived in the early eighties at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. The first two conferences, EASEC-1 and EASEC-2 were held in Bangkok in 1986 and Chiengmai, Thailand in 1989. EASEC-3 was organized by Tongji University and held in Shanghai, China in 1991. In September 1993, Seoul National University of Korea served as a host for EASEC-4. Griffith University hosted the fifth conference, EASEC-5, at Gold Coast, Australia in July 1995. EASEC-6, organized by the National Taiwan University, was held in Taipei in January 1998. |
Conference Theme |
Mutual Understanding and Development To meet with the rapid growth in economy, construction of infrastructures is often carried out at the expense of deteriorating environment. This is especially true in the case of countries in the East Asia-Pacific region which boost the fastest economic growth in recent years. Past EASEC conferences have drawn the attention of structural and construction engineers to rethink the problems caused by these economic achievements. On the other hand, as part of the construction industry which is a large consumer of natural resources, it is our responsibility to make sure that these resources are used efficiently and that impact on the environment is minimized. EASEC-7 once again invites structural and construction engineers to tackle these problems and challenges together. Let us join hands to evaluate both problems and achievements in the past, arrive at a mutual understanding and focus on the challenge of the 21st century. |
Coverage |
Original papers are invited from individuals involved in the field of structural engineering and construction. The following are areas of special interest:

About Kochi University of Technology |
Kochi University of Technology (KUT), a "university of partnership", enrolled its first students in 1997. KUT's objective is to be a center of flexible education and research where students can develop an attitude that spontaneously responds to the challenge of problems. There are 5 interdisciplinary departments aimed at creating a systems engineering that serves human, social and environment concerns. ![]() KUT is 9 km away from Kochi airport and 20 km away from the city. Its spacious campus houses the most up-to-date teaching and learning facilities, a 600-seat auditorium and two 15-story fully furnished dormitories. |
