Message from the Organizers

One of the original objectives of the EASEC was to provide an opportunity for discussing various practical issues of construction engineering. We would like to revive this objective in EASEC-7. Through exchanging information and views, we would like to achieve mutual understanding among engineers and researchers on current issues and future perspectives of construction engineering. Special lectures or sessions will be arranged to reinforce this objective.

We have also been putting our utmost effort to make attendance at EASEC-7 affordable. Let's look at what we can offer you.

  • Registration fee of JPY10,000 (approx. US$80) which includes coffee breaks and a copy of the proceedings.
  • Transportation between Kansai International Airport and Kochi University of Technology at minimum cost as part of the pre- and post-conference tour. A 6-hour bus ride will travel via the newly opened Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (the world's longest suspension bridge) on one way and the Seto Ohashi Bridge on another. Both bridges connect the main island with Shikoku.
  • Low cost accommodation at the fully furnished dormitories of Kochi University of Technology.

About EASECs
The idea of holding the EASEC conference was conceived in the early eighties at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. The first two conferences, EASEC-1 and EASEC-2 were held in Bangkok in 1986 and Chiengmai, Thailand in 1989. EASEC-3 was organized by Tongji University and held in Shanghai, China in 1991. In September 1993, Seoul National University of Korea served as a host for EASEC-4. Griffith University hosted the fifth conference, EASEC-5, at Gold Coast, Australia in July 1995. EASEC-6, organized by the National Taiwan University, was held in Taipei in January 1998.

Conference Theme

Mutual Understanding and Development
for the 21st Century

To meet with the rapid growth in economy, construction of infrastructures is often carried out at the expense of deteriorating environment. This is especially true in the case of countries in the East Asia-Pacific region which boost the fastest economic growth in recent years.

Past EASEC conferences have drawn the attention of structural and construction engineers to rethink the problems caused by these economic achievements. On the other hand, as part of the construction industry which is a large consumer of natural resources, it is our responsibility to make sure that these resources are used efficiently and that impact on the environment is minimized.

EASEC-7 once again invites structural and construction engineers to tackle these problems and challenges together. Let us join hands to evaluate both problems and achievements in the past, arrive at a mutual understanding and focus on the challenge of the 21st century.

Coverage

Original papers are invited from individuals involved in the field of structural engineering and construction. The following are areas of special interest:

  • Analytical and design methods
  • Bridge engineering
  • Case studies and failure investigations
  • Codes of practice
  • Computer applications (CAD, CAE and expert systems)
  • Construction management
  • Experimental studies and on-site monitoring
  • Foundation and substructures
  • Innovative design and new technology
  • Maintenance, repair and rehabilitation
  • New materials and performance
  • Prefabricated and industrialized construction systems
  • Safety and reliability
  • Stability and interaction problems
  • Structural and solid mechanics
  • Vibration, impact and structural dynamics
  • Wind and earthquake engineering

Language and Proceedings

The official language of the conference is English. All papers shall be written and presented in English. Author should make sure that if he/she is unable to attend, one of his/her co-authors will be at the conference to present the paper. Only papers to be presented at the conference will be published in the proceedings.

Copies of the proceedings will be handed out during the registration. Registrants who fail to attend but wish to receive the proceedings will be required to cover the shipping cost.
