About Kochi Prefecture
Kochi Prefecture is a deep mountainous land with spectacular cliffs and scenic rocky beaches in the west and sandy beaches in the east surrounded by brilliant sea. It is one of the largest but most sparsely populated prefectures in Japan. Situated in the southern island of Shikoku, Kochi is blessed with a sunny mild climate. The Seto Ohashi Bridge and the newly opened Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge connecting Honshu and Shikoku make it possible to travel to Kochi by car and train in addition to air travel. As Kochi is not a big city like Tokyo and Osaka, Japanese traditional culture, manners and customs remain here as they used to be.

Kochi Castle
Kochi Castle was built on Otakasaka mountain in 1603. The castle offers a magnificent view of Kochi City which lies at its foot. On Sunday, small stands selling fresh produce and home crafts line the road leading to the castle's Otemon Gate whose huge wooden beams stand as they have been for almost 400 years.
