A welcome reception was held at the Cafeteria. For those who rode on the bus from Kansai International Airport or from Osaka to Kochi, the occasion provided an opportunity to stretch their legs after the 7-hour bus ride. |

An open air party was held on the lawn in front of the Central Building, KUT. Make shift food stalls were set up to let participants enjoy the atmosphere of Japanese festival or "Matsuri". | |

Koto (a long Japanese zither with thirteen strings) players entertained participants with Japanese classical songs, followed by popular songs performed by a student brass band. The student "Yosakoi" dancers received long applauses from the audience that they had to return and performed their medal winning dance for the second time. | |
EASEC Award | ![]() |
Since EASEC was established more than a decade ago, Prof F. Nishino, the first EASEC-ISC Chairman, has tirelessly continued to support EASEC activities. At its meeting on 26 August 1999, ISC members unanimously agreed to present Prof Nishino with an "EASEC Award" for his significant contributions to EASEC. The award was handed to him by Prof H. Okamura, current ISC Chairman during the conference party. |
