Course Objective and Outline:
After 20th century, the world is so interconnected horizontally by the progress of the information and communication technology that individual business will not succeed without having aspiration for global expansion or deep consideration on industry architecture in world-wide perspective. It is thus imperative that an entrepreneur constantly orients his/her business in the world context. This is only possible if based on the in-depth understanding of comparative culture including the differences in the language, way of thinking, family, society, and nation. In this course, we will learn fundamental theory of international business management and future prospect of international business models. We will also recognize our own culture objectively and develop ability to solve various problems that arise when making contacts with different culture during business execution.

Syllabus:
In this class, we will have some foreign guests and have an international video conference. The detailed time schedule is changeable depending on the guests. But the rough framework of the class is as follows.
1. Management Environment of International Business Collaboration:
We will discuss macro-economic environment and technical trends from the 1960’s until today, transition of enterprise management, definition and interpretation of international business collaboration, and move on to the analysis session of management environment that has made international business collaboration indispensable for management of enterprises.
2. International Collaboration in Japan-US Joint-Venturing:
Based on the analyses of examples of collaboration in which Japanese and US companies have cooperated complementing each other’s strength and weakness, we will propose a new paradigm for value creation.
In this session following subject will be also discussed: The differences of business circumstances between U.S. and Japan in terms of
1) Fundamentals on economical and cultural background
2) General aspects featured in U.S. business circumstances
3) Varieties of risk featured in U.S. business circumstances.

3. Japan-US Entrepreneurship: Lecture and Discussion through International Video Conference:
As part of the KUT-Stanford University-University of Colorado Cooperation Agreement, we will discuss international venture collaboration through a video conference connecting KUT and Stanford University. Or, we will have some guests speakers in Silicon Valley, and have discussion through Internet conference system.
4. Current Business Status in China
In the class, we will have some Chinese PhD studetns in the class.
They will have a lecture on current status of business and industries in China.
5. Current status in German
We are inviting an eminent German professor to have a lecture on the current status in German industries and their internationalization issues.
