授業の目的 Course Objectives:
1. Students will become familiar with a range of topics relating to today’s world:
General geography
General history
World economies: north/south
Environmental issues
Conflicts/Human rights
Cultures/Religions
2. Students will learn reading techniques and information searching techniques for getting information about the topics above.
3. Students will practice writing about and giving presentations about global topics.
授業の進め方 Course design:
Weekly reading homework and weekly quizzes. In class: discussion and small project work. Students will write short reports and give mini presentations every two weeks. TOEIC: students must take TOEIC test one time in the semester.
授業計画 Course outline:
Introduction to world geography.
2.-4. World history.
5-7. World economies.
8-10. Global issues: environment and conflict.
11-12. Global issues: human rights.
13-14: Cultures and societies.
教科書 Textbook: Prof. Hunter's materials.
Reference books: English-English or bilingual dictionaries with extensive sentence examples. Internet resources, e.g. CIA factbook.
成績評価
Assessment:
40% for general knowledge tests
20% for presentations
40% for writing assignments
AA: 90% or higher
A: 80% or higher
B: 70% or higher
C: 60% or higher
Fail: less than 60%
備考 Notes:
履修前の受講が望ましい科目 Requirements for enrolment in this course: Students must have taken all 8 courses in 1st and 2nd year English at KUT and must have a TOEIC score of more than 350. Otherwise, the permission of the instructor is required.
