The wind-resistant design of the long flexible structures are presented. Such long structures as suspension bridges or cable-stayed bridges are often suffered from the violent vibration due to the wind excition. Thus, the understanding on the wind induced vibration is of primary importance in the wind resistant design of these structures.
In this lecture, the dynamic characteristics of the various wind induced vibration is presented. The counter devices to suppress the vibration are also introduced in the lecture.
1. The characteristics of the natural wind
Vertical profile of the wind speed, Turbulent intensity, Integral scale of the turbulence, Distribution of the extreme values of the strong wind
2. Vortex ixcited vibration
Karman Vortes, Locking-in pheonomena, Strouhal number, effect of the turbulence on the vortec excitation
3. Gust response
Power spectrum of the turbulent wind wpeed, Frequency response function, Spatial correlation of the turbulent wind
4. Flutter
Unsteady aerodynamic force, Flutter analysis, Flutter in one degree of freedom and coupled flutter
5. Counter devices
