Overall Aims(授業の目的)
1.The students will be able to use the basic English sentence and paragraph patterns
discussing cause and effect, comparing, and discussing pros and cons (pro-con

2. The students will be able to use those patterns to report solutions to practical problems.

Overall objectives (達成目標)
1. Having mastered the basic English sentence and paragraph patterns for discussing
cause and effect, comparing and discussing pros and cons, the students will be ready to learn academic writing and debate.
 
授業の詳細2 授業の概要(Course design)
Students will demonstrate the ability to:
1. Write English sentences about cause-effect relations between conditions and
events.
2. Give an oral presentation in English showing the use of cause-effect language.
3. Write English sentences to compare objects and data.
4. Create pie graphs and information maps to represent given comparison
information.
5. Write sentences in English about pie graphs.
6. Identify the pro and con arguments for a proposal.
7. Write English sentences and paragraphs expressing and weighing the pro and
con arguments of a proposal.

1. Introduction to Thinking in English 2: course rules.
2. Cause and effect: vocabulary and sentence patterns.
3. Cause and effect: drawing cause-effect diagrams from English information.
4. Cause and effect: writing cause-effect English from diagrams.
5. Cause and effect: writing/speaking car accident cause-effect English.
6. Cause and effect: project: car accident cause-effect conversation writing.
7. Cause and effect: project: car accident cause-effect conversation drama speaking.
8. Comparison: vocabulary and sentence patterns.
9. Comparison: using numbers in English comparison.
10. Comparison: information mapping from English sentences.
11. Comparison: writing English from information maps.
12. Pro and con: vocabulary and sentence patterns; writing simple pro-con arguments and counter arguments.
13. Pro and con: Pro and con: debate project: mapping and writing.
14. Pro and con: debate project: speaking and dramatic performance.

Pattern practice writing assignments 3x10=30 points
Pattern usage writing practice 2x10 =20points
Problem solving reports/presentations 2x15=30 points
Tests 2x10=20 points

AA: 90% or higher
A: 80% or higher
B: 70% or higher
C: 60% or higher
Fail: less than 60%

履修上の注意:英語の科目に関しては授業を4回以上欠席すると, 自動的に成績が『不可』となります.また、授業に2回遅刻すると、1回の欠席となります。
