授業の目的 Course Objectives: 1. Students will learn the patterns of English writing which make up the overall genre of academic writing. 2. Students will learn the characteristics of three registers of English: formal academic register, informal academic register (for presentations), and casual scientific register (for discussion). 3. Students will practice analyzing and writing the 3 English registers for technical topics. 4. Each student create a Technical English Dossier, searching out good examples of English research papers in his/her field of study, and will learn to analyze the structure and style of such papers.
授業の進め方 Course design: For each pattern of technical English (example: general to specific organization), there is a cycle of activities: learn to identify the pattern in text; learn the mechanics of the pattern: learn when and where to use the pattern; write text using the pattern. |

Lesson 1-3 Audience: formal academic English (FAE). Lesson 4-7 Purpose of writing: argument and communication moves. Claims and hedging. Lesson 8 Conventions, usage and style. Lesson 9-10 Readability Lesson 11-12 Accessibility. Information organization and readability. Lesson 13-14 Paragraph development and cohesion. Lesson 15 Writing from a model. Dossier work. |
