Details1 Course Objective and Outline This class provides understanding of basic concept, importance, preparing process and writing of business plan, which is indispensable for starting business. Our target is to have a basic capability to make a business plan and write a proposal report on the business plan. As the second purpose of this class, we also learn the manner of teamwork and leadership, as the important basis of real business, through the process of making a business plan and a presentation by teamwork.  
Details2 Syllabus 1. Introduction Making business plan is an essential and indispensable preparation for starting up a business. It indicates a plan of proposed business to induce investments of venture capitalists, and also indicates an important guide for managing and operating the basic resources such as human, financial, and material ones in established actual venture companies. We first study the key point on planning by looking at many cases of starting-up and well / bad managed companies. 2. Framework of business plan To learn element factors, structure and framework of business plan is essential as well as to learn business itself. We overview how to build a framework of business plan and, that is, how to build a business itself by grasping the whole idea of it. 3. Needs and seeds / idea generation The basis of business is the combination of demand and supply, in another word, the combination of finding needs and developing seeds. Making a core of business by combining them, we can generate the key idea and the whole image of business. To do that, it is important not only to generate an idea by each individual person but also to have a free discussion with a variety of people in different areas to grow the basic idea to more matured one. Referring the way of free discussion in IDEO, a famous US designing company, we learn the manner of teamwork in business through excise of brainstorming.  
Details3 4. Value chain analysis and creation of business model A success of each business plan heavily depends on positioning in the value chain in the multiply layered whole industry / market. We learn the relationship between value chain and business model in many cases to create a better business model by analyzing value chain. 5. Resources and operation of business It is generally said that human, material, and financial resources are the three key factors of business. The plan on how to obtain these resources and how to operate them after establishing a company is the important framework of business. We learn about the basic idea on getting investments, financial managing of the production, selling, and stock, leadership and teamwork in order to make a concrete framework of business plan. 6. Exercise on making a business plan and presentation Students will be divided to some teams and exercise how to make a business plan, team by team. This exercise is beneficial for learning teamwork and leadership as well as creation of business idea. Each team also makes a proposal report and a presentation on their business idea. They are requested to discuss and evaluate the other teams’ presentations. The grading evaluation is done for a team and also for each person in the sense of his / her contribution to the team, based on the mutual evaluations between students.
