KUT Summer Discovery Program 2026

From July 15 to 23, Kochi University of Technology (KUT) welcomed 13 students from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and National Formosa University (NFU), Taiwan, for the "KUT Summer Discovery Program 2026," a nine-day international exchange program designed to promote academic learning, cultural understanding, and friendship across borders.

In recent years, KUT students have visited both institutions through overseas training programs, and this year's program provided an opportunity to welcome students from Taiwan to Kochi and create a new chapter of mutual exchange.

During the program, participants explored KUT's learning and research environment through a variety of activities, including campus tours, lectures, and laboratory visits. They attended classes taught by KUT faculty members, including Professor Wei and Professor Kotani, and visited research laboratories to learn about advanced research projects and technologies, including quadruped robots and electron microscopes.

In addition to academic activities, the program offered participants opportunities to experience the culture, history, and natural beauty of Kochi and the surrounding region. They visited a variety of attractions including Katsurahama Beach, the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, Kochi Castle, the Ekin Festival in Akaoka, the Otsuka Museum of Art, and the Naruto Whirlpools. They also took part in Japanese cultural experiences such as wearing yukata and enjoying a summer festival-themed event. Activities including nagashi somen (flowing noodles) and traditional games created memorable moments of laughter and cross-cultural exchange.

A farewell gathering was held to mark the conclusion of the shared program days, where participants reflected on their experiences and expressed appreciation for the friendships they had built during their stay. Even more emotional, however, was the bus ride to the airport on the day of departure, which brought the exchange to a heartfelt close.

Participants shared their reflections on the experience:
"Participating in the KUT Summer Discovery Program has been one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences of my academic journey. The knowledge I gained, the friendships I built, and the kindness I received will stay with me for a lifetime."
"I had a wonderful time and learned a lot. Everything was well organized, and everyone was so kind and welcoming. I hope to see you again in the future!"

Through the KUT Summer Discovery Program 2026, students had the opportunity to go beyond the classroom and experience Japan through meaningful academic interactions, local culture, and everyday life in Kochi. The program fostered lasting friendships and encouraged students to develop a broader international perspective.

Kochi University of Technology remains committed to promoting international exchange and providing students from around the world with opportunities to learn, connect, and grow through meaningful cross-cultural experiences.

KUT would like to thank National Tsing Hua University and National Formosa University for their cooperation and support for the program, as well as the local Kochi community for its warm hospitality.
