14 KUT international and 3 Japanese students joined the Japan Cultural Tour to Shirakawa-go, Gifu Prefecture and Nagoya city from 4th to 6th March 2016.
On the first day, the tour visited old town in Takayama City, Gifu. Kaiseki-ryori(会席料理: formally arranged dinner with set of dishes served on an individual tray)was served for dinner at the Ryokan (旅館: Japanese-style hotel). Students also enjoyed fine view onsen (温泉: Hot spring)there. On the following day, the tour went to Takayama Jinya(高山陣屋)that was a municipal office during the Edo period. History of Takayama Jinya and its traditional architectural style was explained by an English guide and students deepened their understanding of the site. Then, the tour visited the World-heritage, Shirakawa-go.
The scenery of Shirakawa-go impressed everyone even though snow was melting away. The tour walked around the village for an hour and had lunch at the traditional "Gasyou dukuri" house. The tour also stopped at Nagoya castle on the last day and headed back to Kochi afterwards.

Ms. Dwiyantari Widyaningrum who joined this tour says "Everything from this trip was nice and fun. The very special moment for me was Shirakawa-go village because I can learn about traditional Japanese village and also I can see SNOW. That moment was the first time I saw a large pile of snow (because I come from tropical country) and it was really beautiful. Thank you for making a memorable trip."
