Center Overview

Center Objectives

The Research Center for Brain Communication (BrainCom) was established in April 2012 at the Kochi University of Technology Research Institute. We aim to create and establish a new field, "brain communication science" through a high-level fusing of knowledge from various related academic fields, with a focus on neuroscience. To achieve this goal, we have equipped the Center with brain activity measuring devices including MRI and EEG, and neuromodulation devices including TMS and tFUS. We are now conducting research based on the independent ideas of each researcher.

Research Direction and Future Prospects

Our basic policy is to focus on the following three fields:

1. Understanding the brain

In the field "Understanding the Brain" we will use brain function measurement methods such as fMRI and EEG to deepen the findings of basic brain science research, which is the center's core research topic.

2. Controlling the brain

In the field "Brain Control" we will work towards the establishment and application of neuromodulation methods using interventional devices such as neurofeedback, TMS, tCS, and tFUS.

3. Creating the brain

Building on knowledge gained fromour work in the above two fields, in the field "Creating the Brain" we will work to create brain-inspired AI models and develop brain encoding/decoding technologies.

Center members and affiliated researchers will conduct research in these fields independently or collaboratively, depending on the theme.
