On October 6, 2018, the 8th general meeting of the Japan Society of Water Policy and Integrated River Basin Management was held at the Kochi University Monobe Campus. Mr. Yuki Wakatsuki (first year masters student in the Environmental and Mathematical Sciences Course) was presented with the Excellence Award for academic research presentation.

This meeting was held as a venue for deepening the study of basin areas, connecting mountains, rivers and ocean, and promoting the exchange of cross-cultural opinions and information among stakeholders through social activities.

Mr. Wakatsuki presented his research outcomes at a special session. His presentation, entitled, " Deep learning modeling of the water level at the Tsuno River observatory of the Shimanto River," showed the possibility of continuous deep learning simulation of water levels, even in times of flooding or drought.
