The 7th International Symposium on Frontier Technology (ISFT) was held in Thailand on August 23rd－26th.

Kochi University of Technology (KUT) started Special Scholarship Program (SSP) in 2003 to support the advanced research of the university by enlisting the help of highly capable doctoral students especially from foreign countries. The Chinese branch and Thai branch of KUT alumni were established in 2006 when the first SSP students graduated. After one year later, the Chinese branch held the first International Symposium on Frontier Technology (ISFT) in Shenyang. At present, around 170 SSP graduates are playing active roles in various academic fields in many countries, and the network has most certainly become larger and larger. ISFT is held every two years to provide a place for the exchange of innovative ideas and cutting-edge information among SSP graduates and many researchers from all around the world.

The 7th symposium was held in Thailand, for the first time, to offer the chance to explore international or interdisciplinary collaboration among participants. There were more than 100 participants including KUT professors and currents students.

The symposium started with keynote speech by KUT President Masahiko Isobe, Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology President Dr. Bandhit Rojarayanont, Technology Promotion Association　(Thailand-Japan) Board President Dr. Sujarit Koontanawong, KUT IRC Chair Dr. LI Chaoyang. Parallel sessions were concurrently held. At each session, participants discussed enthusiastically about their latest research and exchanged their opinions.

Study tour was held on August 25th. On 26th, campus tour was also held. Participants visited Kasetsart University in the morning and also Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology in the afternoon. They visited laboratories and discussed their research and also the further exchange and collaboration.

KUT will continue to accelerate to international exchange and produce graduates who can play active roles in various fields all over the world.
