In order to cultivate world class researchers through KUT’s advanced research projects, scholarships for doctoral students are provided to recruit students, not only from Japan but also from around the world. Scholarship students receive an exemption from tuition, and when they participate in KUT research projects, they also receive a salary equivalent to the amount supplied to international students in the MEXT scholarship program, or more.
Students can freely select courses that match their interests and align with their future objectives. There are no compulsory subjects. The instructors give the students advice about taking courses.
In the accelerated undergraduate system, dedicated students can enter the master’s program after completing three years of undergraduate study. Such students can attain highly specialized knowledge and skills as a result of educational collaboration between the undergraduate and graduate schools.
This program, founded on the four pillars of financial support, continuous education from undergraduate to graduate school, development of international sense, and job placement support, offers students an environment where they can concentrate on their studies and can develop their skills and knowledge through courses and activities and system which are spontaneously selected and self-arranged in line with their personal objectives and aspirations.
KUT provides a system for encouraging students to present at academic society meetings. Through this system, many students have participated in domestic and international academic society meetings to present their research. To present at academic meetings, it is necessary to produce a paper reporting the author's original study, founded on objective data. Presenters are also required to answer questions from the audience after the presentation. With such experiences as a springboard, students can readily develop into world class researchers and engineers.
Recently, the demand for individuals with science and engineering background is increasing in companies in Japan, especially in leading edge industry sectors. Such people are expected to have completed a master's program and have a high level of expertise, a broad perspective and rich communication skills so that they can participate in joint research development projects. KUT provides 1) a continuous curriculum connecting undergraduate education and research to that of graduate school; 2) early graduation options; and 3) various other kinds of educational support, so as to create an environment where students can grow continuously as they proceed to graduate school.
