Grading and GPA System

Grading Criteria

At Kochi University of Technology, students' academic performance is evaluated using a five-grade scale: AA, A, B, C, and F. Grades AA through C indicate a passing performance, and the prescribed academic credits are awarded. A grade of F indicates failure, and no academic credit is granted.

The University also adopts the Grade Point Average (GPA) system, which converts letter grades into numerical values to calculate a student's overall academic performance. GPA is used as one of the criteria for recognizing outstanding academic achievement and determining eligibility for early graduation.

The GPA is calculated based on courses that count toward the graduation requirements. The five letter grades are converted into Grade Points (GP) as shown in the table below:

AA = 4
A = 3
B = 2
C = 1
F = 0

The GPA is calculated by multiplying the Grade Point (GP) for each completed course by the number of credits earned for that course, summing these values, and dividing the total by the total number of credits for all courses taken.

GPA = Σ (Course Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Total Number of Credits Attempted

※ No GP is assigned to "T". ("T" is not included in the GPA calculation.)

Release and Confirmation of Grades

Grades are released after each quarter. Please note that this does not apply to intensive courses.

Students will be notified of the grade release through the University Portal System. Once released, grades can also be viewed on the Portal System.
