Scholarship Program for International Master's Students from Partner Schools

Kochi University of Technology offers scholarships for international students admitted to its Master's Programs from universities or faculties that have concluded an exchange agreement (hereinafter referred to as "partner universities"). This scholarship aims to enable outstanding master's students from partner universities to devote themselves fully to their academic studies without financial difficulty. This will apply to students admitted to the Master's program starting in the 2026 academic year.
Types of Scholarship and Eligibility
There are two types of scholarships; Type A and Type B
For both types of scholarships, a recommendation from a partner university is required.
For the purpose of this scholarship program, an "international student" shall be defined as a person of non-Japanese nationality who holds, or is expected to obtain, the status of residence "Student".
Scholarship Type A
Applicants for Scholarship Type A must satisfy all of the requirements listed in the itmes (a) through (d) below:
(a) The applicant is expected to graduate from the undergraduate program of a partner university, or has graduated within three years prior to
enrollment in the Master's Program of Kochi University of Technology
(b) The applicant has a strong intention to progress to the Doctoral Program of Kochi University of Technology
(c) The applicant meets the academic requirements;
- Achieve a GPA of 75% or higher of the maximum score in the undergraduate program
- In the case where a GPA is not culcurated, the applicants must achieve an overall academic performance of 75%
(d) The applicant possesses the Engish language proficiency;
- corresponding to CEFR (Common Framework of Reference for Languages) level B1 or higher
【CEFER B1】
The English language proficiency required for Scholarship Type A (CEFR B1) refers to a level at or above the following:
TOEFLiBT42, IELTS4.0, CET-4(425), WSK(PETS-3)
Scholarship Type B
Applicants for Scholarship Type B must be expected to graduate from the undergraduate program of a partner university, or have graduated within one year prior to enrollment in the Master's Program of Kochi University of Technology.
Support and Benefits by Scholarship Type
The types of scholarships and the amounts/support to be awarded are as follows.

* If a student enrolled in the Master's Program of Kochi University of Technology is accepted as an SSP student at Kochi University of Technology, the student shall be regarded as having equivalent status to an SSP Student from the month admission decision is made. From that time, while still enrolled in the Master's Program, the student will receive a full tuition waiver and a monthly scholarship of 150,000yen. The SSP entrance examinations are conducted in two rounds: one held one year prior to enrollment, and another held six months prior to enrollment.
How to apply Scholarship Type A and B
Applicants who wish to receive this scholarship must apply for admission to the Master's Program (Standard Program) of Kochi University of Technology and submit their scholarship application through the international office of partner university they belong to.
Firstly, applicants should inform the international office of their home university that they wish to apply for this scholarship and ask the staff member to contact our university at the address below. Upon inquiry, the prescribed form, "Application for Scholarship for Master's International Students (Format 1)," will be sent to the international office of their universities, together with detailed instructions on the application procedure.

The following documents must be submitted together with the application documents for the Master's Program (Standard Program):
- Application for Scholarship for Master's International Students (Format 1)
- An officially issued "letter of recommendation" prepared on the university's official letterhead*
*If the applicant wishes to apply for Scholarship Type A, the letter of recommendation must state that the applicant has an excellent academic record and has a strong intention to progress to the Doctoral Program at Kochi University of Technology.
Support for Master's Students After Passing the SSP Examination
As mentioned above, KUT master's students who have passed the SSP examination will be entitled to receive the same level of financial support as SSP students from the month in which the admission decision is made and thereafter. Eligible master's students are not limited to scholarship recipients under Type A or Type B; all students enrolled in the master's program are eligible.
