Laboratory/research office	Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Kinetics Laboratory We conduct fundamental and applied research on cloud and precipitation phenomena in order to better understand them and to improve prediction skills. Our current research topics are: 1) study of Arctic clouds and precipitation processes using a high-resolution numerical model; 2) towards an understanding of the processes underlying clouds and precipitation, evaluation of clouds and precipitation as simulated by numerical weather and climate models, using observation data sets obtained from satellites; and 3) study of the process of growth of cloud and precipitation particles. Future topics include the mechanism of heavy precipitation events; meteorological observation and prediction in Satoyama (the traditional Japanese agricultural landscape); and improvement of flood and drought forecasting.
