Human society is globalizing ever more rapidly. At the same time, many environmental and development problems have arisen, notably global climate change, international conflicts and economic inequality. It is widely recognized that these difficult problems cannot be solved without cooperation and coordination among nations and individuals. Given this state of affairs, we are working to analyze scientifically how these problems could be properly framed and solved via economics, management and experimental methods. Our research focuses on cases in not only Japan but also other countries, especially developing nations, where many problems are more serious than in industrialized countries. The comparison of our analysis between Japan and other nations should lead to the clarification of what types of cooperation and policies are essential for the solution of current pressing problems such as climate change and sustainable development.
