Human society is globalizing ever more rapidly. At the same time, many international problems have arisen, notably global climate change, international conflicts and economic inequality. It is widely recognized that these difficult international problems cannot be solved without cooperation and coordination among nations. Given this state of affairs, we are working to analyze scientifically how these problems could be properly framed and solved via economics, management and experimental methods. Our analysis should apply not only to Japan but also to other countries, especially developing nations, where many problems are more serious than in industrialized countries. The comparison of scenarios in Japan and other nations should lead to the clarification of what types of cooperation and policies are essential for the solution of current pressing international problems.
