The aim of our research is to develop human support systems to supplement human functioning, in the fields of medicine, assistive technology and health promotion, through the functional integration of dynamics, mechatronics, signal processing, measurement and control technology, and brain information engineering. Our main development targets are key technologies including wearable sensor systems for estimating human motion, force and energy; and actuators using energy regeneration. Our research results can greatly benefit the health of the middle aged and elderly: we have developed gait analysis and assist systems, and a posture improvement training system to prevent lumbago. Moreover, a novel safety surgical robot system is now under development.
