“How can we motivate students to learn?” To answer this question is the main purpose of my research. The following two perspectives are thought to be useful in addressing this question: (1) The Aspiration (Life goals) perspective and (2) the Social-emotional skill perspective. The Aspiration (Life goals) perspective states that healthy life goals can lead to increased motivation to learn in students (e.g., intrinsic motivation, autonomous motivation, and mastery goals). The Social-emotional skill perspective states that non-cognitive skills (e.g., empathy, perseverance, and optimism) may promote the above processes and increase the likelihood of students’ success in life beyond school. This section constitutes a part of the Research Unit of Psychology, Education, and Technology (RUPET), which was established in KUT to investigate and solve regional educational problems.
