Laboratory/research office Reinforcement Learning and Heuristic Search Laboratory
Reinforcement learning, one of the three major learning paradigms, enables an agent to interact with complex environments, collect experience, and receive feedback on its performance. Through this process, autonomous agents can learn highly sophisticated policies. Super-human level performance has been achieved for games such as Go, chess, shogi, and various video games by combining deep reinforcement learning with heuristic search. For this reason, both search and reinforcement learning are commonly seen as pivotal technologies for advancing artificial general intelligence. Our lab prioritizes improvements on these two families of algorithms for various interesting applications while ensuring safe, responsible AI development.
